What We Handle

Three ways we stand between you and the IRS

01

Tax Representation

We step in as your representative before the IRS for examinations, collection activity and appeals. That includes filing Form 2848, taking the calls, corresponding in writing, and requesting penalty abatement, installment agreements or other available resolutions.

  • Power of attorney filed and tracked
  • IRS phone and written correspondence handled
  • Penalty abatement and payment plans
  • Appeals and Tax Court petition deadlines flagged for you
02

Tax Notice Management

We review each notice against your filed return and records, check the figures, identify any applicable response deadline, and prepare a response with supporting documents when needed.

  • Notice identified by type, period and deadline
  • IRS figures reconciled to your filed return
  • Written response with supporting documents
  • Follow-up on account status and next steps
03

Audit Representation

Correspondence, office and field examinations handled by a credentialed professional. We organize the records, respond to each information request, attend the interview with you, and present the support for every item under review.

  • Correspondence, office and field audits
  • CP2000 and underreporter inquiries
  • Employment tax and sales tax examinations
  • Records organized to the examiner's request list

Tax Notice Management

One letter, handled properly, end to end

IRS notices can request information, propose changes or seek payment. We review what the notice says, explain any applicable deadlines, check the figures against your records, and help prepare the appropriate response.

  1. 01

    Open and read the notice

We identify the notice type, tax period, what it asks you to do, and any applicable response or appeal deadline.

  2. 02

    Verify the IRS numbers

We compare the IRS figures with your filed return, payment records and supporting documents to identify any differences and determine whether a response is needed.

  3. 03

    Prepare the response

We follow the notice instructions, prepare any required response and supporting documents, and track the applicable deadline and submission details.

  4. 04

    Address any underlying issue

We review whether missing information, a payment discrepancy or a return error needs attention. If an amended return is appropriate, we coordinate it with the notice response and the IRS's instructions.

  5. 05

    Track account updates

We monitor available IRS correspondence and account updates, explain the status and any next steps, and keep copies of notices and responses for your records.

Audit Representation

Records organized. Responses prepared. Deadlines tracked.

An audit involves reviewing records, explaining the facts and addressing IRS questions. With the appropriate authorization, our Enrolled Agents can represent you before the IRS, communicate on your behalf, and receive tax information for the matters covered.

Correspondence audit

The IRS requests records by mail about specific items on a return. We review the request, organize supporting documents, and prepare a response addressing the questions raised.

Office audit

A scheduled interview at an IRS office. We prepare the records, brief you on what will be asked, and attend with you so the questions are answered accurately and consistently.

Field audit

An examiner comes to your business or your representative's office. We organize the records, respond to information document requests, and track examination requests and deadlines.

CP2000 and underreporter

The IRS compares third-party information, such as Forms 1099 and W-2, with your return and proposes changes. We review the proposed adjustments and supporting records, then help prepare a response. The tax effect depends on the facts and the IRS's review.

Employment tax audit

Payroll, worker classification and trust fund questions. If we run your payroll, we can show the deposits, filings and treatment behind each worker.

State and sales tax audits

State revenue departments and multi-state sales tax examinations, including nexus questions, exemption certificate support and back-period filings, subject to each state's representation rules.

Before you respond

Four things not to do with an audit letter

  • Ignore the envelope and hope it goes away
  • Call the IRS alone to explain what happened
  • Mail records the letter did not ask for
  • Assume an amended return replaces the notice response

How It Works

From the first notice to documented next steps

01

Send us the letter

Upload or bring in every page, including the envelope. We will tell you what it means and what the deadline is before anything else.

02

We scope the case

We identify the tax periods, the amount at issue and the path to resolution, then give you a flat quote before work begins.

03

We take over the file

We file Form 2848 for the tax matters you authorize us to handle, communicate with the IRS on your behalf, and track correspondence and deadlines.

04

We document the outcome

You get a written summary of the outcome, the supporting file, and any recommended follow-up steps.

Questions

What clients ask when the IRS writes

Representation outcomes depend on the facts of each case and the IRS's determinations. No result is guaranteed.

Can you represent me if you did not prepare the return?
Yes. We review the return and the records behind it first, because representation starts with knowing what was filed. If the return needs correcting, we can handle that too; return preparation is quoted separately.
What is Form 2848 and why does it matter?
Form 2848 is the power of attorney that authorizes us to represent you before the IRS, receive your confidential tax information, and act on your behalf for the tax matters and periods listed on the form. You may still receive IRS correspondence directly.
What does representation cost?
We quote a flat fee after we see the notice, the tax periods involved and the amount at issue, and you approve it before we begin. Representation is priced separately from bookkeeping, payroll and return preparation.
How long does an IRS matter take to resolve?
Timing varies with the notice type, the complexity of the issue and IRS processing. Some matters take months or longer. We discuss expected next steps for your case and provide updates as information becomes available.
Do I have to attend the audit myself?
Often not, but the IRS can require you to attend some interviews. In correspondence examinations we handle everything in writing. For an interview we attend with you, and where the IRS allows it, you can authorize us to appear on your behalf.
Do you handle state notices and audits too?
Often, yes. We assist with Arkansas and multi-state notices, sales tax examinations and state income tax inquiries alongside federal matters, subject to each state's representation rules.
